Act I
At the beggining of this act Sampson and Gregory start a small skirmish with the Montegue family. Prince Esculas warns them that if another fight like this happens, he will have them punished. During this scene it also tells of Romeo's fake love for Rosaline. Mercutio and Benvolio, Romeo's friends, are also introduced in this scene. Lady Capulet and Nurse pressure Juliet to fall in love with Paris and marry him. Tybalt, an angry malicious Capulet is also introduced. Romeo is invited to a Capulet party where he meets Juliet and instantly they both fall in love.
Act II
This scene starts with Benvolio and Mercutio talking about Romeo's love and foolishness. Romeo makes a dangerous journey to Juliet's house in the middle of the night. Juliet does not realize that Romeo is listening to her soliquoy about him. Romeo realizes that Juliet loves him and tells her that he is their listening. She is startled at first but then they start to talk as lovers do. Romeo says that they will marry the next day and Juliet agrees. The next morning Romeo approaches Friar Laurence about him and Juliet getting married. Friar Laurence promises to marry him and Juliet in secret and to tell no one. The reasoning for Friar Laurences decision is that he wants the two families to live in peace. Nurse approaches Romeo to ask him about marrying Juliet. Later that same day Friar Laurence marries Romeo and Juliet.
Act III
This scene starts off with Benvolio and Mercutio talking. As they are talking they are approached by Tybalt who is looking to fight Romeo. Romeo soon finds his friends and Tybalt and is challenged to a fight by Tybalt. Romeo refuses because he and Tybalt are family although Tybalt does not know it. Tybalt takes a cheap shot on Mercutio and kills him. This angers Romeo very much and he chases down Tybalt and kills him. Romeo is exiled by Prince Esculas to and starts to live in Mantua.
Act IV
In this act Juliet finds out she is to marry Paris. Juliet does not want to marry Paris but her Father gets very angry when he finds this out. She says she is going to ask Friar Lawrence for forgiveness but really was going to tell him what had happended. Friar Lawrence does not have an answer for Juliet at first but then he comes up with a remedy. Friar Lawrence has a potion that will make Juliet look like she is dead but really she will wake after a certain number of days and hours. Friar Lawrence arranges for a letter to be sent to Romeo so that he will know that Juliet is not really dead. That night Juliet drinks the potion. The next morning her parents think she is dead and have a funeral.
Act V
In this act Balthasar sees Juliet's funeral and immediately goes and tells Romeo of what he thinks is Juliet's death. Romeo does not yet know about the potion and he finds a poison so that he can go to Juliet's tomb and die with her. He goes to the tomb and finds Paris their putting flowers on Juliet's grave. Romeo then kills Paris and drinks the poison and dies in Juliets grave. Friar Lawrence finds Romeo dead there and Juliet wakes up. Friar Lawrence beckons Juliet to come with him but she will not and he has to run away because the watch is coming. Juliet stabs herself in the chest with Romeo's dagger and dies with him. At the end of the play Montague and Capulet decide to have peace in honor of there children.
